RMSS Board Meeting Minutes

January 21, 2026

The meeting was called to order at 12:15pm by League Coordinator Randy S.

Attendees: Mike B. Bill K. Dennis E. Willis G. Joe K. Tom K. Bill VW. Casey D. Mike W. Deb W. Chuck B. Ernie H.

Coordinator Randy S. announced that he has named Kent W. to the position of Special Assistant.  This person fills in if the League Coordinator cannot attend a meeting or function.  This is an appointed position. The most previous League special assistant was Ben B.

Randy also reported that the Dome may be up next year. He has heard from City people, and there may be a plan in the works. Since the board meeting, Randy discussed the Dome with both RCTC and Ben Boldt from the City of Rochester. Both stated that something is in the works, but nothing has been approved.

Secretary Report:  Bill VW  The minutes were reviewed and approved.

Treasurer Report: Dennis E. The Checking account balance is $4608.11.  The Designated Fund Balance was $784.32

The budget for next year was discussed and approved.  Much discussion about the fact that we spent nearly $2400. over what was budgeted in 2025. But the additional spending was needed and approved by the board.

Website/Technology Report:  Joe K.   The Joe's have been working together updating by-law changes and other documents like the Registration Form, which was presented and approved.  The forms will be available at all future dome ball practices and games.  Also, at spring practices. The cost to play and the responsibility waivers are on the form.  The line with asking where you heard about the league was discussed.

There was much discussion about putting a league calendar on the RMSS website.  By the February meeti we will have most of the dates set up and added to the calendar on our website. Examples include: League start date. League game days. Picnic days. meeting days, etc.

Publicity Report:  Bill K. Reported that KAAL responded to our Salvation Army fund raising event at the dome.  Biill K. was interviewed by the station Reporter.  The Salvation Army Captains also were interviewed. He is working on other events that TV coverage may be attending  He needs input on ideas for the summer picnics, and as always help with these and any other functions coming up.

Rules and Safety Committee Report: There was discussion about "Chirping", or unruly activity during games.  If any player has a question on a questionable call. Joe has mentioned this new rule at all recent Dome games and was happy with the results. The new rule includes, “Players must first get the attention of their team manager to voice their concern. Then both team managers and the umpire will settle the dispute”.

--There have been a couple of bat-throwing incidents.  These players will be warned with a letter.  Any further occurrences may mean suspension from the league.

· Several other things, like player minimum qualifications, will be deleted until we actually have set minimum qualifications that

· Fence depth in the dome will remain at 285 feet or the 15-yard line.  This was decided during a Dome committee meeting.

· If you throw your glove at the ball, the hitter is allowed 3 bases. All runners on base will score. We need to make sure this rule is understood by all players.

· Bats. You must use your own bat or a yellow-taped league bat.  You may use another player's bat if you have the owner's permission.

· If any bat looks altered or cracked, the bat will be disallowed. If a player comes to the plate with the same bat, the player will be asked to leave.

· Also discussed the first base ruler and the Sliding rule. These rules are on the web page.

· Another...No Smoking or Drinking Alcohol on the RCTC Campus.

· The Pinch Runner Rules. They are very lax in Dome Ball. Basically, anyone can run as much as they want.  Summer Ball, basically, you may only courtesy run once an inning.

Realistically, we should encourage all players to read/understand our rules. Randy will encourage this via email as soon as everything is updated.

· Dome Ball vs. RMSS Dome Ball is an element of RMSS. RMSS operates all operations. The only exception is that Dome ball has it own checking account.

· Speaking of Dome Ball.  Jim Goodman ran Dome Ball, and for the last couple of years. Joe Kluck has been running it since. Joe is now ready for someone to step up and start taking over. Joe is writing up the job description for this position. If you know somebody or want to do it yourself, please reach out to Joe or Randy.   It would be great if you jumped in now to create a great learning opportunity to learn from Jim and Joe.

· We also have to give Bill Beaupre a great amount of gratitude. He has been checking players in for many years. It is a monumental task.

· Overcommunications—We need to let team managers know when a game will be ending by sharing the time or by letting team managers know it is the last inning of the game.

Jersey Orders: Deb has agreed to continue to manage our uniform programs. Thanks, Deb. We will need to make some final jersey decisions at the next board meeting.
