RMSS Senior Softball
COVID 19-Related Game Rules & Procedures
Adopted by RMSS Board on July 8, 2020

IMPORTANT: RMSS's  primary concern in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic is the health and welfare of players and their families. We will implement these safety measures so that we can get back on the field as soon as possible. Players who choose not to follow the safety rules will be counseled one time and then asked to leave the session. We appreciate

your cooperation in following these new procedures.

All players must have signed a registration form or waiver documenting they have read and will follow RMSS COVID-19 guidelines as documented on this page.

Social Contact before, during and after the game:

  • Do not come to play if running a fever and/or feel sick!

  • Players will be expected to maintain social distancing (6 feet of distance) before and after the game, as well as during the game as much as possible.

  • There will be a “no-contact, no-handshake policy” to be observed at every level of the organization until further notice. This includes all physical contact. We will be verbally communicating “good game,” without shaking hands, high-fiving or fist-bumping.*

  • Pregame batting practice will be left to player discretion. However, for those choosing to participate, social distancing must be maintained at all times. Face mask or face covering is encouraged, but will be left up to the player.

  • Any gatherings after the game, continue 6 feet distance.

  • Each player should bring their own personal sanitizer with them and sanitize their hands and bat before participation.

  • Family of players who attend need to ensure the social distance protocols are followed, no sitting on side bleachers.

  • There will be no picnics this summer, which can be addressed later by the board.

  • Keep 6 feet of distance in and out of dugout. Players from the team at-bat will be required to stay separated, with only those players who are next in line to bat in the dugout. No more than 2 players should be in the dugout at any time. Other players remain on the outside of the fences or on bleachers and maintain 6 feet distance.

  • Managers, or players they designate, will use a disinfectant in the dugout area (bench, bat racks, etc.) prior to each game.

  • When leaving the dugout at the end of the game, each team will need to clean up the dugout and get rid of trash, etc.

  • The League will not furnish water for players. Each player is responsible for their own water container (with your name on it) & maybe keep it in your bag

  • No sunflower seeds allowed, chewing, spitting etc.

The Game:

  • It will be mandatory for catchers and umpires and sub runners to maintain 6 feet separation from the batter & each other. Masks encouraged for umpire & catcher.

  • The use of a face mask or face covering while in the dugout is encouraged, but is left up to player discretion.

  • Team roster for the game, will be posted outside the dugout.

  • Whoever picks up a bat after it is used, should pick it up by the BARREL end and return it to dugout.

  • Every batter coming up to bat should be responsible for sanitizing the handle before each use. More than one person may have used it, whether it is a league bat or their own!

  • Start each inning with 3 disinfected balls. Any out of play foul ball is to be disinfected.

  • Any of this can be addressed by the board at a later date.

Personal Hygiene:

  • Most important: Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Cover your mouth and nose - with a tissue, if possible - when coughing or sneezing, then properly discard the tissue in the trash. * * Carry a sanitizer in your bat bag at all times.

  • Avoid close contact with anyone else who is coughing or sneezing or who is otherwise sick. People who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms will be asked to leave the park.

  • Wash your hands often, using soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-base sanitizer that contains at least 60%alcohol.
